Lasix (furosemide) can be prescribed for the treatment of fluid retention. Fluid retention can be caused by some conditions, such as liver or kidney disease. Lasix can be also prescribed by your doctor if you have high blood pressure. If you have ever been prescribed other medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure, or you are taking aspirin, corticosteroids, lithium, probenicid, indomethacin, diabetes medications, lithium or any vitamins inform your doctor about it, as otherwise drug interactions are likely to occur. Avoid sun exposure as Lasix has been reported to make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen and wear clothes that cover the areas that may get affected.
Some of the side effects you may experience include headache, upset stomach, thirst, weakness, dizziness, muscle cramps, confusion, restlessness and constipation. Unless these side effects go away after a coupe of days they need to be reported to the doctor that prescribed Lasix and your dose may need to be adjusted. If you ever had kidney or liver disease, gout or diabetes your doctor needs to know about it an advance to prescribe the right dose that you will benefit from.
